Today, it’s my great pleasure to present you a new writing initiative. I say “present it” but what you should actually understand is “recruit for”. 😉
Some of you probably heard of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) before. This month-long challenge held in November invites writers around the globe to produce at least 50,000 words in 30 days.
Some of you, through your visit of my blog, might have read my NaStyRoMo stories (National Story of Romance Month). Though inspired by NaNoWriMo, the NaStyRoMo was meant to be low pressure: everyone wrote the length of story they wanted. The only rules were to follow the theme and post it all within the month of February.
This month of July sees the 6 month anniversary of NaStyRoMo and we wanted to do something special for the occasion. What was merely going to be another themed month grew into the NaSty Writing Web.
The NaSty Writing Web
This website is the new home of all things NaSty-related. We wanted to open up the event to more writers and readers so we set up a little community, a perfect playground. The only thing missing now is you people!
The registration process is really quick, will grant you access to the forums and allow you to participate in our next writing project (which I will present in a moment). It doesn’t force you to write anything. You can just swing by to find some awesome stories or embark in our writing journey.
Our goal is to provide one theme a month and share stories and constructive criticism.
Come on and check us out!
NaStySuMo – National Story of Superhero Month
To kick off our NaSty adventure, we chose to dub the month of August “Superhero” month.
Starting August 1st and ending August 31st, we invite you to write stories about superheroes. You may write one or several short stories, one longer story broken into chapters/parts, poems or whatever literary format you want. The word count doesn’t matter. Just have fun. It’s an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and/or write something else than your WIP (work in progress).
If you have a blog, post your story on it then head to the NaStySuMo forum to give us the link to your work. We’ll add you to the official compilation page of the project’s stories. It’s a great way to enjoy yourself, improve your writing and promote your blog.
If you don’t have a blog, no worries! You can post directly on our forum and enjoy the visibility and constructive criticism. It’s really as simple as that.
Remember though: you can prepare your story now but only post it in August.
Our objective is to have a low barrier of entry, “don’t worry be happy” writing activity. To truly make it awesome, we need you.
You can be sure you’ll hear more about this during the rest of the month as I will feel no shame in coercing you into giving it a try. Starting August 1st, my blog will be overtaken by lots and lots of superhero stories. I’ll even probably kick it off with a superhero theme song.
Now, how is that for a selling point? Don’t you wish to be part of a group who has its own superhero theme song?
