Grate – A Drabble

She didn’t speak. She cleared her throat, and the sound ground my courage to a volatile powder that her sigh of disappointment dispersed.
Sure, I’ve been a dumbass, but I don’t deserve this.
I had my back to her, but her glare, abrasive as ever, burrowed itself in my spine until I turned around.
Stand up! Be a man! Do not, DO NOT –
– My ears flopped down and my tail too.
Damn it!
She tsked. I wouldn’t be fed tonight. She pointed the cage. I followed the finger.
All the curse let me do was bark my annoyance.
One day…
