Accident – A Drabble

The beaker toppled off the shelf and smashed against the counter. Its content splashed into the surrounding Petri dishes, which were uncovered for the experiment.
The professor cursed and mumbled about years of research wasted.
“I’m sorry,” I said, scrounging for an intact sample in a piece of broken glass. “Awesome stuff was discovered by accident. Think of penicillin! We might solve cancer.”
“For the sake of your internship, I hope you’re right.”
I stopped cleaning. “Beg your pardon?”
“You heard me.”
“Really? ‘cause I would have to explain the exact circumstances of this accident.”
I threw him his pants.
