Hello!
Today, I’m guest blogging over on Sara-Jayne Townsend’s blog. About drabbles. *laughs* Feel free to drop by and read how I think drabble improves our writing! Now on with the challenge!
Remember how it works?
- Read the prompt and find your angle.
- Write a drabble (100 words story, give or take five words).
- Post a direct link to your drabble in the comments (or, if you don’t have a blog, just go ahead and post your drabble in the comments).
- In the post on your blog, make sure to link back to this post.
Today’s prompt is: Guest!
And the extra challenge for points no one keeps track of: avoid the “unwanted guest” twist!
A little note: from this week on, I will only read one drabble per participant. You’re welcome to post more than one but if I don’t want my schedule to get out of hand, I have to limit my reading. Thanks for your understanding!
Awesome writerly week to all of you!

The water hit Tom hard. He coughed, tasting the salt despite his alcohol breath. Blood pounded against his skull. Fear soon pounded too.
“I’d rather not throw you overboard. It’s bad for our image.” The captain towered over him, a hand holding a bucket and the other a sword. “But we’re not in a habit of sailing with party guests.”
Tom remembered the festivities drawing him out of his alleyway and onto the ship. There had been food and rum. A bit too much rum.
Tom cleared his throat. “Hire me then!”
The captain chuckled and threw him the bucket.

[…] Aheila does a weekly drabble day on her blog. She selects a theme and writes a drabble (a short story of exactly 100 words) and we are invited to write one of our own using the same theme word (plus or minus five words), post it on our blog then link to it in her comments. […]

I feel like playing today. I’ve not written a drabble in eons. I think I get extra credit as my “guest” is very much wanted…perhaps a little too much.

Yay! I’m so happy you decided to join this week. Your story is fun!

I’ve been doing a few drabbles lately and thought I’d give this one a shot. Good to see so many fun entries.

I avoided the unwanted guest angle, too. Actually, in a way, not so much. 😀

Where do you see blood and guts? It’s all peaceful resolution in there. You’re the one with dead people!
FYI: The link didn’t work for me. If other have this problem, try this link: http://phildesserre.wordpress.com/2011/06/27/guest-drabble-challenge/

oops, it’s supposed to be http://wp.me… not mw.
I was picturing blood and guts from your description. I suppose I should reread.
June 29th, 2011 at 9:31 pm
Oh! It doesn’t bother me that you add bloody details in your mind. Just don’t blame it on me. 😛

I had a spare five minutes so I thought I’d have a wee crack at this week’s drabble challenge. I think I managed to avoid the unwanted guest angle so I hope you like it.

The drive was as long as the road that had led to its impressively oversized phoenix engraved gates. The black limousine that Martha rode in the back of was the kind of automobile she always resented in her youth. She believed only posers and do-littles had a need for such flashness and had always resented her first husband Charles’ decision to purchase one when his debut Broadway play had been well received but on an occasion such as this a grand vehicle was obligatory to make the appropriate entrance to one’s funeral after all you only get buried once.

Oh! Nice twist! As gloomy as usual, I see. 😉

A little bit late but there you go – no bonus marks for me today. 🙂
Nice Drabble Aheila!

It sound very gross. And don’t worry about ‘being late’. The prompt is good for the whole week. And then some.
