I’m almost all caught up on my reading and comment replies. Yay! The only thing left is the drabbles you wrote for the Memory prompt. I preferred to take a bit of a break before I read them; I had a lot to do over the weekend and they deserve more than half my attention.
I spent part of my weekend starting the outline for my Script Frenzy project as April is coming really fast! One of the things I’m having problems with for this story is naming the characters. For some reason, as soon as I have their name, they finally decide to come to life and tell me how the heck they’re meant to work in my plot.
This story’s behavior is peculiar, more whimsical than my other WIPs, but I’ll eventually nail it down.
I’ve got my main character named: McKaylee ‘Mac’ O’Sullivan, witch and general do-gooder with an attitude. I asked about on Twitter for suggestions about her almost-brother-not-love-interest partner, chose one and then changed my mind while I was looking for the name of the cursed-but-oh-so-sexy-love-interest-material guy – whose name has yet to be chosen. So the partner’s Drew, the mentor’s Paddy – respectively a witch and an ex-witch – and I’m obsessed about finding the purrrrrfect name for the hunk currently labelled ‘X’ in my outline. *lesigh*
So that’s where today’s theme comes from.
Here is how the drabble challenge works!
- Read the prompt and find your angle.
- Write a drabble (100 words story, give or take five words).
- Post a direct link to your drabble in the comments (or, if you don’t have a blog, just go ahead and post your drabble in the comments).
- In the post on your blog, make sure to link back to this post.
Today’s theme is: Name!
I’ll post my story on Friday!

Aidan! I pick Aidan, it goes well with Mac/McKaylee!

I actually toyed with the idea of calling him Aidan. It was one of my favorites.

Aidan’s a good choice. There are so many choices, right? That’s what makes it so hard. Don’t get hung up on it.
I really appreciate your comments and critiques, Aheila, and I’m looking forward to reading your opinion of my drabble for Memory. It’s drawn from, but not part of, a story I’m writing with Re Gypsy.

I don’t usually obsess with it so much. This story’s really not coming to me in the usual way.
It’s always a pleasure to read the various drabble. I like that this activity provides both support and improvement. I analyze myself through it. 😉

DML is currently lost in Swaziland so he asked me to post his link.
Goes to say that nothing keeps him from the drabble challenge! *laughs*

I’m the same way once the name is right the character comes alive for me most recently I have been writing a sitcom pilot based loosely on myself so the obvious name for the lead character was Drew the other characters however were harder to bring to life but eventually it has worked out 20+ name changes down the road for his best friend. I’m sure you’ll find the right one and then it will be off to the races with your next epic story my friend. Here is my drabble attempt Aheila it is strangely upbeat for one of my efforts, haha.
What’s in a name but a few vowels and consonants? Why does this name in particular strike such a chord with me? I couldn’t tell but for the first time in my life I wasn’t going to question it too much for fear of the inevitable backfire my life’s engine would surely take. My throat ran dry when it came time to say those vowels and consonants aloud in their wondrous order as I felt my heart beating in my chest like a wayward drummer who has lost his rhythm as I cleared my throat and said ‘I take the….’

that was good. it is weird how letters and vowels put together in a certain order for a name can make us assume and feel things about a person…

Thank you Tara, I was in bit of a silly mood when I wrote it as I’ve just started seeing someone and it’s still in that goofy everything seems cute phase, lol.
